GREENSBORO, N.C. (3/16/11) -- Four Princeton pitchers combined to limit UNC Greensboro to a single run on six hits, but six Spartans pitchers held the Princeton baseball team scoreless in a 1-0 UNCG win on Wednesday night at UNCG Stadium.
Princeton outhit the Spartans 7-6 in the game, but couldn't scratch across a run despite having runners on base in all nine innings of the game. Princeton left the bases loaded in the fourth and two on base in the first, second, third and fifth innings and couldn't get the clutch hit it needed to bring home any runs. Mike Ford was the only Tigers with multiple hits for Princeton and he reached base four times in the game.
UNCG pushed across the game's only run in the fourth inning when Cambric Moye singled in Ray Quinones from second after he had hit an infield single and moved to second on a walk.
A.J. Goetz started for Princeton and gave up a single run on four hits in three and a third innings and went the longest of any of the 10 pitchers in the game. Ryan Makis and Michael Fagan provided hitless relief and Matt Welsh held UNCG scoreless over the final two innings. Zach Furl threw eighth pitches and got one out to get the win for UNCG.
Princeton fell to 2-7 with the loss and continues its Spring Break trip on Thursday afternoon when Zak Hermans takes the mound at North Carolina A&T.
