April 02, 2011 | Women's Rowing - Open
The top-ranked Princeton open crew swept all four races in a Saturday morning regatta on the nearby Raritan River, defeating both Rutgers and Navy to improve its season record to 4-0.
Princeton, which moved to the No. 1 spot in the national poll following last weekend's wins over both No. 5 Brown and No. 10 Michigan State, swept all three NCAA format races by at least 10 seconds. The varsity eight won its race in 6:26.1, more than 18 seconds faster than host Rutgers (6:44.9). The Tiger 2V also picked up a convincing win, taking its race in 6:33.3, while Rutgers finished second in 6:51.7.
The Tiger varsity four had a slightly closer race, but it was also victorious in a time of 7:23.3. Navy placed second in 7:35., while Rutgers took third in 7:56.9.
Princeton also had a novice eight race, and the Tigers won in 6:55.4, while Navy took second in 7:16.2.
Princeton will continue its nearly month-long road trip next weekend when it heads to the Charles River to take on both Harvard and Cornell for The Class of 1975 Cup. This will be Princeton's first race on the course since winning the prestigious Head of the Charles race last October.
