Men's Heavyweights Regain Carnegie Cup, Move To 6-1 With Pair Of Wins

The fourth-ranked heavyweight men bounced back from last weekend's close loss to No. 3 Harvard with a sweep of both Cornell and Yale in the varsity eight showdown. Princeton won the race in 5:49.2, while No. 11 Cornell finished second in 5:52.8 and No. 9 Yale took third in 6:00.1. The win gives Princeton its first Carnegie Cup since 2008; over the last three years, each of the three teams has won the event once.
Princeton is now 6-1 on the season and 4-1 in the Ivy League. It will try to get to 7-1 next weekend when it hosts seventh-ranked Brown for the Content Cup in the regular season finale. That regatta will begin at noon and will be part of a full morning of Princeton rowing; both the top-ranked open women and llghtweight women will also be in competition on Lake Carnegie.
Two other boats bounced back after their first losses of the season the previous weekend. The second varsity moved to 6-1 with its win in 5:53.0, a time better than four seconds faster than Cornell. The Big Red held off Yale by less than one second in a time of 5:57.7.
The freshman eight also looked good Saturday morning, topping second-place Cornell by more than four seconds with a victory in 5:51.2. Cornell took second in the race by 4.5 seconds.
The third varsity finished third in its race in a time of 6:05.5. Yale won the heat in 5:58.2, 3.1 seconds faster than Cornell.
