Rider Tops Baseball Team 6-3 on Wednesday

PRINCETON (4/27/11) - The Princeton baseball team dropped a midweek decision to Rider 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Clarke Field. Princeton led the game 3-0 before Rider scored four times in the sixth to take the lead.
Michael Fagan made his best start as a Tiger as he cruised through five innings. He scattered three hits and walked two while striking out two in keeping Rider off the scoreboard. Fagan left the game with the lead as the Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
With one out Andrew Whitener singled to right center. He stole second and then Tom Boggiano walked to put two runners on. Matt Bowman followed with a double to left that plated both runners and Bowman would later score on John Mishu's double. Bowman and Whitener each finished the game with two hits for Princeton.
Rider answered in the sixth with four runs that were all charged to Ryan Makis. Ken Kremer, Steve Gallela and Karl Johnson all drove in runs in the inning. Rider would then add an unearned run in the seventh and another in the eighth to extend its lead to 6-3.
Makis took the loss and fell to 1-1 as he allowed the four sixth inning runs. David Palms, Matt Welsh and A.J. Goetz all saw action in relief. Kyle Kennett got the win for Rider as he allowed three runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings. Tyler Smith got the save.
Princeton falls to 18-19 overall with the loss. The Tigers are back in action on Friday afternoon when they host Cornell for a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon.
