Five Princetonians to Tour Germany and Belgium with USAFH

The group will leave for Europe on August 1 and compete in three test matches in Moenchengladbach, Germany August 4-7. The second half of the tour will be in Antwerp, Belgium for four test matches against the champions of Champions Challenge II, August 10-14.
The U.S. team enters the series after a second-place finish at the Champions Challenge I in Dublin, Ireland in late June. The American team advanced to the championship game of the tournament before falling to Japan 2-1. The U.S. went 0-2-1 in its three pool games, falling 2-1 to Japan and 3-1 to Scotland before drawing with South Africa 5-5 on Tuesday. The Americans then beat Ireland and Scotland in the playoff round to advance to the title game against Japan.
The USA is currently ranked thirteenth in the world and continues to develop its reputation as a team that can have a presence at the highest level heading into the 2012 Olympic year. USA will compete in one more test series in Chula Vista, Calif., against New Zealand in September before heading to Guadalajara, Mexico in October for the Pan American Games and the team's first opportunity for Olympic qualification.

In other USA Field Hockey and Princeton field hockey news, incoming freshman Sydney Kirby was named to the U.S. U19 National Squad. The group will train at USA Field Hockey's field in Chula Vista, Calif., in early 2012 and visit Canada for a four-game test series.
The Princeton field hockey season is a little more than a month away as the Tigers visit Bucknell on Sept. 7.
