Guzman, McGuinness Earn US Youth Soccer Honor
August 10, 2011 | Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer
Princeton rising sophomores Billy McGuinness and Gabriella Guzman were named to the "Best 11" lists at the U.S. Youth Soccer national championship tournaments held in late July.
The lists, which were announced August 8, had Guzman, who played for the PDA Tsunami team, on the U-19 girls Best 11 while McGuinness, who played for the Chicago Fire, was on the U-19 boys Best 11.
Guzman's team, the Region I champions, went 1-2 in pool play while McGuinness's team, the Region II winners, went 2-0-1 in pool play and advanced to the final.
Last fall, Guzman earned honorable mention All-Ivy League, scoring a goal and starting 13 of 16 games while helping the Princeton women to within a game of the Ivy League title. McGuinness and the Princeton men advanced to the NCAA tournament after capturing the Ivy crown upon the completion of an undefeated league campaign.
Both Princeton teams will begin their practices for the 2011 season two weeks before their respective opening games on Sept. 2. The men will open at the College of Charleston while the women will open at Long Beach State.
