Women's Cross Country Takes First at Fordham Invitational
September 10, 2011 | Women's Cross Country
BRONX, N.Y. (9/10/11) - The Princeton women's cross country team earned the top spot at the Fordham Invitational on Saturday with four runners finishing in the Top 10. Sophomore Clare Gallagher had the Tigers' best time on the five kilometer course at Van Cortlandt Park.
Gallagher placed fifth overall in the Division I race with a time of 18:23.83 but scored fourth-place points for the Tigers because the race's second-place finisher was not a college runner. Junior Alex Mikaelian and freshman Emily de la Bruyere finished right with her in sixth and seventh, less than a second behind. Junior Greta Feldman came home ninth with a time of 18:27.43.
Princeton final three scorers finished 12th, 13th and 14th, led by sophomore Molly Higgins, followed by freshman Andrea Keklak and sophomore Marisa Cummings. Freshman Jackie Nicolas placed right behind in 16th.
The Tigers took the team title with a low score of 34, nine points better than second-place Yale. The Bulldogs did have the first- and third-place finishers in the race.
The Tigers will compete against Harvard and Yale next weekend in Boston.
