All-Time Series: Princeton leads 21-10-2; Streaks: Overall, Princeton 1; Home, Yale 3
The seven games the Princeton women's soccer team had to prepare for its first Ivy League contest are now in the books, and Yale will come to Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium for a Saturday contest that is the first step in determining the Ivy League champion.
This is the fourth straight year the Yale game has been Princeton's Ivy League opener, and home field hasn't been kind to either club. Yale has a three-match win streak in Princeton, and the Tigers have won the last two in New Haven. If Princeton wins, it will be the first time in the series since 2006 that the home team has won the match.
A low-scoring game has also been a trend of late, as the losing team has been shut out each of the last three meetings and the winner has scored as many as two goals just once during that span. The last time either of those streaks was not intact was 2007, when Yale won the season-ending match 3-1 on Powers Field at Princeton Stadium.
Last season's game was the only time any of the current Tigers either scored or played in goal in the series. A year ago, Jen Hoy's 29th-minute goal, assisted by Caitlin Blosser, made a winner of the Tigers as Kristin Watson completed a 1-0 shutout.
Claire Pinciaro (1-5, 1.96 GAA) and Darcy Hargadon (0-0-1, 1.55) have split the starts in goal this season for Princeton, as Pinciaro started the first six games before Hargadon played Wednesday night against Lafayette in a bid to get the freshman some game action before the Ivy season begins.
Senior Sara Chehrehsa and freshman Liana Cornacchio became the fourth and fifth Tigers to score a goal this season as Princeton played to a 2-2 tie with Lafayette. Juniors Blosser and Hoy have two goals apiece, while freshman Lauren Lazo has also scored.
Six Bulldogs have split Yale's nine goals this season, with senior Enma Mullo and freshmen Meredith Speck and Melissa Gavin scoring two goals apiece. Junior Adel Jackson-Gibson has played 649 of the 721 minutes in goal, accruing an 0.83 GAA. Jackson-Gibson had played every minute until being relieved by freshman Elise Wilcox in the 18th minute in Sunday's game against Sacred Heart.
The game will end a three-match homestand for Princeton after the Tigers began the season with five away from home. Following league matches against Dartmouth and Brown, Princeton will return to Roberts Stadium on Oct. 10 for a non-league game against Francis Marion.
