PRINCETON, N.J. (11/7/12) - The Princeton women's cross country team will race in the 2012 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Friday, Nov. 9. The event is hosted by Penn State in University Park, Pa. The men's 6k race begins at noon.
The top two teams from each regional will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. In addition, 13 at-large teams will be selected. Thirty-six individuals automatically qualify by being one of the top four regional finishers not on an advancing team, with two additional individuals chosen by the committee.
The Tigers were fifth at Regionals last year and had two individuals qualify for the NCAA Championships. Princeton has finished in the top five at Regionals every year since 2002, including wins in 2008, 2007, 2006 and 2005.
Seniors Alexis Mikaelian and Greta Feldman were both named all-region last year, finishing 23rd and 24th, as the Tigers' 2-3. Sophomore Jackie Nicholas and junior Marisa Cummings finished in the top-50 at Regionals last year and will challenge for a scoring slot again this year. Senior Abby Levene, sophomore Emily de La Bruyere and senior Mel Newbery should also be contenders.
The Tigers are ranked No. 5 in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Three teams in the region are ranked nationally, including: No. 9 Georgetown, No. 15 Penn State and No. 25 Villanova. West Virginia will also present a threat to Princeton.
