Husky Classic Results
Senior Donn Cabral and Joe Stilin, junior Peter Callahan and sophomore Conor McCullough all posted national-level results during a strong weekend for the Princeton men's track and field team. All four have marks that rank them in the top 15 in the country.
Princeton competed at both the H-Y-P meet in Cambridge and at the Husky Invitational in Seattle, Wash., and it recorded those electric feats at both sites.
Six-time All-America Cabral set an Ivy record in the 5k at the Husky Invitational. He ran 13:45.92, 6.50 faster than the previous best Ivy mark set in 1994. The time ranks Cabral 11th best in the nation.
Callahan, one week after running a sub-4:00 mile, topped that effort at the Husky Invitational. He won the event with a time of 3:58.76 and ranks 14th in the nation. It topped his performance last weekend of 3:58.86 which he ran at The Armory in New York City.Stillin went later and placed fifth in the 3,000, but he did so in a Princeton and Ivy League record time of 7:53.15. His mark is the 15th best in the nation.
McCullough became the national leader in the weight throw in his first meet of the season. He smashed the Ivy League record in the weight with a throw of 23.19m (76-01 ft). It topped the old Ivy League record by nearly six feet and got Princeton off on the right note in its win at the H-Y-P meet. Princeton took the event with 100.5 points, while Harvard finished second with 56.5 points. Yale placed third with 13 points.
After McCullough's win, senior Patrick Park earned a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 16.59m. Tiger sophomore Omar Jarrett put Princeton back in the win column by taking the high jump (1.99m), while freshman Stephen Soerens shared third with a jump of 1.84m.
A trio of Tiger sophomores went 1-2-3 in the long jump, with Tom Hopkins taking the win with a jump of 7.30m. Shane Molidor (7.07m) and Damon McLean (7.03m) took the next two spots. Another sophomore, Damon McLean, won the triple jump (15.24), while Soerens placed second with a jump of 13.77.
Seniors David Slovenski (5.30m) and Derek Hynes (4.65m) went 2-3 in the pole vault, while junior Richard Sheldon won the 60 hurdles in 8.16. Freshman teammate Robert Mohr placed third in 8.25.
