Despite Strong Start, Tiger Volleyball Falls To Yale In Four Sets
November 16, 2013 | Women's Volleyball
Despite a quick start from a youthful lineup, Princeton's upset bid fell short Friday night at Dillon Gym. The Ivy League champion Yale Bulldogs took the final three sets to defeat the Tiger women's volleyball team 3-1 Friday night.
Freshman Cara Mattaliano continued her hot late-season play, leading Princeton with 14 kills and four service aces, while classmate Kendall Peterkin added 13 kills. Sophomore Sarah Daschbach (14) and freshman Lauren Miller (13) led a gritty defensive effort with 27 of the team's 44 digs, while junior Tiana Woolridge hit .500 with nine kills and a team-high three blocks.
Freshman Brittany Ptak had six kills, while Miller paced the offense with 32 assists.
The Tigers raced out to a quick start in the opening set, building leads of 11-6 and 22-13 before finishing the set off 25-18. Yale came back strong in the second set and built an early lead in the third. Princeton got the deficit down to two at 22-20, but the Bulldogs won the final three points and carried that momentum into a 25-20 win in the fourth.
Princeton will conclude its 2013 season Saturday at 5 pm when it takes on Brown at Dillon Gym. The Bears pulled out a tight 3-2 win in Providence earlier this season. The Tigers will also honor the four members of the Class of 2014: Kelsey Janke, Leah Jordan, Chelsea Parker and Christine Renschler.
