PRINCETON, N.J. (10/1/14) - The Princeton women's cross country team returns to action this weekend, Oct. 4 & 5. The team will split off, sending its top group to the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, and another group to Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational.
The Tigers are receiving votes in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll and remain fifth in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Princeton will race in the Blue Race on the Notre Dame Golf Course. The 5k race is set to start at 4:15 p.m. The Tigers will face three nationally-ranked squads (No. 12 New Mexico, No. 29 Butler and No. 30 Penn State) along with four other teams receiving votes in the poll (BYU, NC State, Ohio State and SMU).
Last year in South Bend, the Tigers finished fifth overall and in front of two other squads ranked in the national poll. Megan Curham was the top finisher, running 17:21 to place 12th overall. Backing her up should be senior Erika Fluehr and junior Kathryn Fluehr. Kathryn was the sixth runner at the meet last year, while Erika did not compete.
The Tigers will compete in the Brown Race at Paul Short. The 6k race is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., on the Goodman campus.
Nicole Marvin led the Tigers at a sweltering Paul Short meet last year. Before the meet was halted due to heat, Marvin finished 30th overall at 22:18 in the non-team scored race. Jackie Nicholas, Zoe Sims, Sarah Porter and Amanda Chang were the next four Tigers across the line.
