Lussi, Gregoire Earn Ivy Weekly Women's Soccer Honors
October 27, 2014 | Women's Soccer
For the third time this season, Princeton has earned both an Ivy League Player of the Week award and an Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor, this time going to Tyler Lussi and Vanessa Gregoire.
For Lussi, it is the third Player of the Week honor of the sophomore's career, and it gives Princeton three Ivy weekly honors this season along with Lussi's on Oct. 13 and Lauren Lazo's on Sept. 15. It is the seventh time in program history that Princeton has received at least three Ivy weekly honors in a season, following 1985 (four), 2000 (three), 2004 (five), 2005 (three), 2008 (three), and 2012 (six).
Lussi was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week and was chosen as an ECAC Player of the Week for her efforts.
The award is Gregoire's second, along with her rookie honor on Sept. 29. Princeton has received four Ivy Rookie of the Week awards this season, including one for Mikaela Symanovich on Oct. 13 and one for Beth Stella on Sept. 15, equaling the program season record of four Ivy Rookie of the Week awards from 2002.
Lussi earned the award for scoring four goals against Harvard Saturday, tying a program record both for goals in a game and points in a game (eight), each last achieved by Vicki Anagnostopoulos '10 against Harvard in 2006.
Lussi now has 15 goals on the season and 25 for her career, putting her third on the program's single-season goals list behind Jen Hoy '13 (18, 2012) and current assistant coach Esmeralda Negron '05 (20, 2004), and tying her for eighth on the program's career goals list.
Lussi, Gregoire and the Tigers have three games remaining on the slate this season, first at Cornell Saturday in the team's final road game, followed by visits from North Carolina State next Tuesday and Penn Saturday, Nov. 8.
