The Princeton women's cross country came in second at the Ivy League Heptagonal championships two weekends ago in the pouring rain on the West Windsor Fields.
A second-place finish this time around would feel much more like a win.
Princeton's women will race at noon Friday at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional at Penn State, to be followed at 1 by the men's race. The women will run 6K, while the men will go 10K.
The top two teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA championship meet, which will be held Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind. It will still be possible to advance as a team to the NCAA championships without finishing in the top two and grabbing one of the at-large bids that are awarded through a complex formula.
Also, the top four runners on non-qualifying teams will also earned at-large bids to the NCAA championships.
Princeton enters the Mid-Atlantic meet as the No. 4 team in the region, behind Georgetown, West Virginia and Villanova. Princeton is also ranked 28th nationally.
Tiger sophomore Megan Curham won the Heptagonal championship by nearly four seconds. She was joined in the top 10 at Heps by Kathryn Flueher (seventh) and Natalie Rathjen (eighth).
