Harvard Outlasts Princeton In Five-Set Volleyball Marathon

Despite a combined 45 kills from junior Kendall Peterkin and senior Nicole Kincade, the Princeton women's volleyball team fell in a five-set thriller to Harvard Friday night in Dillon Gym. The loss leaves Princeton two matches back with three to play in the Ivy League season.
Princeton found itself trailing both 1-0 and 2-1 in the match, but it battled back in the second and fourth sets to keep pace with Harvard. The Tigers got out to an early 4-2 lead in the fifth set, but Harvard was able to rally quickly and held an 8-7 lead at the switch. It grew to five points later in the set, but Princeton got back to within 13-11 to energize the Dillon Gym crowd.
Harvard called timeout and got back-to-back kills to close the match and remain in a first-place tie with Yale; both teams have 9-2 Ivy records, while Princeton is 7-4.
Peterkin, the Ivy League leader in kills, led all players with 27, and she added 15 kills and four blocks. Kincade added 18 kills, five blocks and two service aces, while sophomore Brittany Ptak continued her strong play with 12 kills on 23 swings, and she added three blocks.
Sophomore setter Lauren Miller recorded 55 assists, while both Cara Mattaliano and Sarah Daschbach recorded more than 20 digs.
Princeton will play its final home match of the season Saturday at 5, and it will honor its five-member senior class (Sarah Hanna, Francie Jenkins, Nicole Kincade, Ginny Willis and Tiana Woolridge) prior to the match.
