PRINCETON, N.J. (10/28/15) - Princeton, the highest ranked team in the Ivy League, looks to stay that way as it races for the women's cross country Ivy League at the 2015 Ivy League Heptagonal Championship on Friday, Oct. 30. The race begins at noon
The Tigers are ranked No. 20 in the latest USTFCCCA national poll with 133 points. Columbia is No. 25 with 63 points. Dartmouth, Harvard and Penn are all receiving votes.
Two major changes to this year's Heps include location and distance. After a four-year hiatus from Van Cortlandt Park, when the competition was held in Princeton, Heps returns to the Bronx. Instead of racing the typical 5k, the distance will be 6k this year for the women. The race will begin at noon, following the men's race.
Princeton was the runner-up last year. The Tigers won the team title five consecutive years at Van Cortlandt Park, from 2006-2010, including the record-breaking 2009 season when the team went 1-2-3-4-5 for the best score in Ivy history.
Last year's individual champion, Megan Curham, has left the individual top spot wide open this year, as she takes a hiatus for an internship. Princeton has had a consistent top three all season, led by junior Lizzie Bird. She won HYP to start the season, was third at the Interregional Meet and was 14th at Wiconsin. Seniors Emily de La Bruyere and Kathryn Fluehr have been the No. 2 and 3, all season. A few Tigers could challenge for those final two scoring slots - including freshman Brighie Leach, junior Ally Markovich, junior Nicole Marvin, sophomore Melinda Renuart or sophomore Natalie Rathjen - who was eighth at Heps a year ago.
