November 03, 2015 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. – Maddie Copeland of the 18th-ranked Princeton University field hockey team has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week after helping the Tigers to a 4-0 win over Cornell last Saturday.
With Princeton holding onto a 2-0 lead, Copeland netted her first of the afternoon in the 58th minute. Receiving a Cat Caro feed at the right post, the senior striker beat Cornell goalkeeper Kelly Johnson with a shot tucked into the near side of the cage. Minutes later, Copeland caught up to a long Teresa Benvenuti through-ball before spinning and capping off the scoring at 60:04.
In the midst of a breakout season, Copeland has amassed a career-high 32 points on 15 goals and two assists. Over the course of her career, Copeland has racked up 69 points on 33 goals and three helpers.
This week's honor is the third POTW award for Copeland this season. The eighth time a Tiger has taken home a weekly honor in 2015, Anya Gersoff was named the conference's Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 8, while Copeland garnered POTW accolades on Sept. 22 and Oct. 6.
Sophia Tornetta has twice been named the league's Rookie of the Week (Sept. 8, Sept. 29), while Nicole Catalino garnered ROTW recognition on Oct. 13. Jane Donio-Enscoe was named the conference's Rookie of the Week on Oct. 20.
