ALBANY, N.Y. (12/15/15) - The Princeton women's hockey team swept this week's ECAC Hockey award as Jaimie McDonell, Karlie Lund and Kimberly Newell were voted the league's Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week and Goaltender of the Week, respectively as the Tigers have now won six straight games.
McDonell led the league in scoring last week with four points on one goal and three assists. She finished with a plus/minus rating of plus-3 as Princeton swept Penn State to extend its win streak to six straight games. On Friday night she assisted on three of Princeton's four goals in a 4-0 shutout. McDonell had the primary assist on the first three Tigers goals. On Saturday she scored the game-winning goal, an unassisted goal in a 3-2 win.
Lund registered two assists last weekend as Princeton swept Penn State to improve its win streak to six games. Both helpers came in game two and were the primary assists in the team's first and second goals after being down 1-0. She set up both goals to give Princeton the 2-1 lead at 5:33 of the third period. This marks the third Rookie of the Week honor for Lund on the season. Lund ranks first among her rookie counterparts in the league averaging 1.12 points per game in overall contests.
Newell earned her seventh career shutout and second of the season on Friday night with a 4-0 win over Penn State. She stopped 22 shots as the Tigers won their fifth straight game. This marks the second consecutive Goaltender of the Week honor for Newell. Logging over 700 minutes in net this season in overall contests, she has only surrendered 18 goals, recording 1.49 goals against average and a .947 save percentage.
Princeton will be back in action on Jan. 1 & 2 when it hosts Brown & Yale at Hobey Baker Rink.
