Lussi Named All-America, Three Tigers Earn All-Region Honors
December 04, 2015 | Women's Soccer
Tyler Lussi was named an NSCAA second-team All-America while Lussi, Mimi Asom and Emily Sura were named to the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region teams, the NSCAA announced.
It is the fourth straight year Princeton players have been all-region honorees and the 15th time the program has had an All-America honoree. Lussi is the first since Jen Hoy '13 in 2012, also a second-teamer, to earn All-America status.
Last season, Lauren Lazo '15 was a first-team all-region pick while Lussi made the second team. In 2013, Gabriella Guzman '14 was a second-teamer, and in 2012, Hoy earned first-team honors while Lazo was a second-team honoree.
This year, Lussi is a first-team all-region honoree with Asom on the second team and Sura on the third team.
Lussi, a junior, was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year while piling up an Ivy League-best 15 goals and 35 points, adding five assists. Fellow forward Asom tied the program's freshman record with 12 goals while adding four assists, and senior defender Sura helped Princeton hold opponents to 1.11 goals per game while starting all 19 contests. Sura also scored three goals and added six assists.
The trio helped lead Princeton to the second round of the NCAA tournament for the second time in four years, defeating Boston College 4-2 on two goals apiece from Lussi and Asom to win the first NCAA tournament game played at Roberts Stadium in the facility's eight-season history.Â
While Sura was the lone senior starter for the Tigers this year, Princeton can return 43 of its 46 goals and 44 of its 50 assists from the 2015 campaign.
Lussi was also named a finalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, college soccer's top honor. Fans can help vote her into the finals by selecting her here.
