Men's Track & Field Lays Claim to 24th-Straight H-Y-P Title

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Rolling up 125 points, the Princeton University men's track & field team captured its 24th-straight H-Y-P title. Harvard took second overall with 36 points, followed by Yale with 22.
Posting a time of 8.19 in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles, Greg Caldwell set a new personal record in the event. Clocking in at 8.00, Caldwell shaved three one hundredths of a second off his previous best. Rob Mohr took second with a time of 8.08.
Dominating the 60m dash, Princeton took the first five spots. Fresh off his school record time of 6.82 at last weekend's Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup, Carrington Akosa claimed first-place with a time of 6.88. John Hill was second (6.89), followed by Dré Nelson (6.90). Tommaso Greenbaum and Maxwell Schwegman were fourth (6.94) and fifth (7.01), respectively.
In the 200m it was once again Akosa leading the way with a time of 22.24. Brent Albertson was second (22.33), while Schwegman came in fourth (22.41).
Eric Schulz set the pace in the 500m, clocking in at 1:04.82. Harvard's Matthew Hurst edged out the Tigers' Josh Ingalls for second by the slimmest of margins, 1:05.103 to 1:05.107.
Going 1-2 in the mile run, Garrett O'Toole edged out teammate Sam Berger. O'Toole crossed the finish line in 4:08.09, with Berger posting a time of 4:10.17.
Bradley Paternostro won the 800m run with a time of 1:50.78. Mike Mazzaccaro placed second in the 3000m run (8:12.68), followed closely by Matt McDonald (8:15.82) and William Bertrand (8:16.80).
Princeton claimed second through fourth in the 400m, led by Ray Mennin (49.34). Josh Freeman and Bryant Switzer were the next runners to cross the finish line at 50.18 and 50.19, respectively. Luke Brahm was third in the 1000m with a time of 2:30.29.
In the 4x400 relay, Akosa, Freeman, Greg Leeper and Mennin set the tone with a time of 3:19.53. Princeton's 4x880 relay team of O'Toole, Noah Kauppila, Brahm and Paternostro also rose to the top of the podium with a time of 7:40.21.
In the field events, Jake Scinto won the long jump with a leap of 7.20m (23-07.50). Leeper was second at 7.06m (23-02.00), while Tumi Akinlawon was third at 6.89m (22-07.25).
Scinto also won the high jump at 2.02m (6-07.50). Xavier Bledsoe was the runner-up, while Colin Reilly finished third at 1.94m (6-04.25).
A week after setting a new Ivy League record in the pole vault (5.41m), Adam Bragg won the event at the H-Y-P by clearing 5.20 (17-00.75). Ben Gaylord was third at 4.90m (16-00.75).
Lane Russell won the triple jump with a personal record mark of 15.44m (50-08.00). Nana Owusu-Nyantekyi claimed third at 14:73m (48-04.00).
Christopher Cook won the shot put with a personal record toss of 18.34m (60-02.00). Scott Rushton was second at 17.02m (55-10.25), while Mitchel Charles placed third at 16.37m (53-08.50).
Jake Taylor was the runner-up in the weight throw with a toss of 16.59m (54-05.25).
