Women's Water Polo Upends Brown to Claim Inaugural Ivy League Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. – Extending its win streak to five games, the Princeton University women's water polo team captured the inaugural Ivy League Championship with a 9-4 triumph over Brown University.
The Tigers' opened tournament play with a 12-1 victory over Dartmouth. Due to the Big Green's club team status, only the game against Brown will count toward Princeton's 2015 record as the Orange and Black improved to 7-1 overall.
Leading 4-3 at the intermission, Princeton accounted for two of the three goals in the third quarter. Pulling away late, the Tigers held a 3-0 scoring edge in the final eight minutes.
Jessie Holechek paced the Princeton attack with four goals on six shots. Haley Wan added three goals and an assist, while Taylor Dunstan and Kimi Klein also got on the board. Pippa Temple and Emily Smith chipped in with an assist and steal apiece.
Making her fourth collegiate start, Helena van Brande made nine saves, allowing just one goal in the second half. Through her first four games, van Brande has stopped 53 of the 72 shots she has faced en route to a 0.736 save percentage.
Princeton will open conference play next Saturday, Feb. 28 against Bucknell and Hartwick in Lewisburg, Pa.
