Bragg, Akosa Set Records as Men's Track & Field Wraps Up at Sykes & Sabock

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Buoyed by several standout performances, the Princeton University men's track & field team placed fourth out of 12 programs at Penn State University's Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup.Setting a new Ivy League benchmark, Adam Bragg cleared 5.41m (17-09.00) in the pole vault. Claiming the Tigers' lone win at the Challenge, Bragg edged out Cornell's Grant Sisserson, who cleared 5.31m (17-05.00). Bragg's mark is currently the 14th best in the country. Teammate Ben Gaylord was tied for seventh at 4.86m (15-11.25).
Turning in a time of 6.95 in the preliminary round of the 60m dash, Carrington Akosa earned eight points for Princeton thanks to a second-place showing in the finals. Setting a new school record in the process, the freshman crossed the finish line in 6.82, two one hundredths of a second faster than the Tigers' previous mark. Continuing to shine in the 200m dash, Akosa placed fourth with a time of 21.67.
Headlining a strong Princeton performance in the mile run, Bradley Paternostro was the event's runner-up with a time of 4:02.75. Teammate Mike Mazzaccaro came in 10th with a time of 4:09.98.
In the 3000m run, William Bertrand was ninth overall with a time of 8:26.87. Tom Scott posted a top-10 finish in the 600m run, crossing the finish line in 1:22.50. Eric Schulz was eighth in the 800m (1:52.65), while Garrett O'Toole took 13th in the event (1:54.28).
In the field events, Christopher Cook was second in the shot put with a toss of 18.00m (59-00.75). Mitchel Charles was tied for eighth with a mark of 16.35m (53-07.75). Colin Reilly was 12th in the high jump with a mark of 1.96m (6-05.00).
The host Nittany Lions took home the top team honor with 144.7 points. Cornell took second with 115 points, with UConn (93.7) and Princeton (62.5) coming in third and fourth, respectively. Buffalo rounded out the top five with 60 points.
