Baseball Drops First Game of Weekend Series Against No. 16 Maryland, 15-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Princeton University baseball team dropped the opening game of a weekend series with No. 16 Maryland, 15-0.
The Tigers' will look to break back into the win column against the Terrapins tomorrow (Mar. 14). Because of impending weather, the game (originally scheduled to be played at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium) has been moved to Harford Community College. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
Scoreless after the first two innings, Maryland broke through with five runs in the bottom of the third. After pushing across another run the following inning, the Terrapins scored four more in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 10-0. Maryland closed out the scoring with five runs in the final three frames.
Chad Powers fell to 0-3 on the year after surrendering 10 runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings of work. Nick Donatiello allowed three runs on three hits in 2.2 innings, while Chris Giglio gave on up a pair of runs on two hits while pitching the eighth.
Zack Belski and Nick Hernandez each went 2-for-4 for the Tigers. Billy Arendt and Peter Owens accounted for the Tigers' other two hits.
Earning the win, Mike Shawaryn tossed seven shutout innings, racking up 11 strikeouts while issuing just two walks. Jack Piekos and Andrew Green combined to pitch a pair of hitless innings.
Jose Cuas was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Kevin Martir was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Anthony Papio was 4-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored, while Kevin Biondic and Kengo Kawahara each went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
