Princeton Baseball Suffers Setback at East Carolina University, 11-2

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Princeton University baseball team opened its two-game set with East Carolina University (14-6) with an 11-2 loss at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
Game two of the series, originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 18 has been moved up to 5 p.m. to accommodate a WNIT basketball game on ECU's campus.
Managing just two runs on nine hits, the Tigers (1-10) committed four errors in the loss. The Pirates racked up 11 runs on 13 hits. Up 2-0 after four innings, ECU pushed across five runs on five hits and a pair of Princeton errors in the fifth. After tacking in two more runs in the sixth, the Pirates rounded out the scoring with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the eighth.
The Orange and Black's only runs came in the top of the seventh on a one-out Danny Baer RBI single down the leftfield line and a Brett Geren sacrifice fly to center.
Peter Owens finished 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Billy Arendt was 2-for-3 with a walk. Nick Hernandez, Danny Hoy, Geren and Baer accounted for the rest of the Tigers' nine hits.
Nick Donatiello took the loss after surrendering seven runs (four earned) on eight hits in 5.0 innings. Chris Giglio pitched 3.0 innings in relief, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits.
Jimmy Boyd improved to 2-3 on the season after giving up just two runs on six hits in 7.0 innings of work. Mason Keen and Joe Ingle combined for a pair of shutout innings in relief.
Luke Lowery was 2-for-3 on the afternoon with an RBI and three runs scored, while Reid Love and Eric Tyler both finished 2-for-5. Kirk Morgan was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Travis Watkins went 1-for-2 with three RBI.
