PRINCETON, N.J. – The 10th-ranked Princeton University women's water polo team improved to 23-3 on the season with a hard-fought 9-7 victory over No. 15 University of Michigan.
Up 2-1 after the first quarter, the Tigers battled the Wolverines to a 3-3 tie in the second en route to a 5-4 lead at the intermission. Accounting for three of the four goals in the third period, Princeton did just enough down the stretch to finish with a two-goal margin of victory.
Jessie Holechek paced the Princeton offense with three goals and two assists, while Chelsea Johnson and Haley Wan each had a pair of scores. Camille Hooks and Hannah Lapkin also found the back of the net, while Ashley Hatcher had two assists and a steal.
Playing all 32 minutes in net, Ashleigh Johnson stopped 18 of the 25 shots she faced. Tallying five saves in the first period, she had three stops in the second. Adding five more in the third, she also recorded five saves in the final frame.
Princeton closes out its CWPA weekend with a matchup against Notre Dame College on Sunday, Apr. 12.
