No. 12 Princeton Cruises Past George Washington in CWPA Opener, 15-2

PRINCETON, N.J. – The 12th-ranked Princeton University women's water polo team opened Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship play with a decisive 15-2 victory over George Washington University at DeNunzio Pool.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 44-0 all-time against the Colonials, having also defeated GW earlier this season, 14-5. Princeton will face Hartwick in tomorrow's semifinal round. Game time is set for 5:20 p.m.
Knotted at 1-1 in the early going, Princeton closed out the half with nine unanswered goals. Haley Wan and Kimi Klein got things started with back-to-back goals before two Taylor Dunstan scores made it 5-1. After an Ashley Hatcher tally with 3:46 remaining in the second period, Chelsea Johnson found the back of the net to make it 8-1.
Building on the Tiger momentum early in the third quarter, Emily Smith and Hannah Lapkin posted two more goals. Ahead 13-1 entering the final frame, Princeton accounted for two of the three tallies in the fourth to cruise to a 13-goal margin of victory.
Dunstan and Lapkin each had a hat-trick, with Dunstan also collecting two assists and two steals. Wan had two goals, while C. Johnson, Hatcher, Sydney Cheong, Temple, Coffey, Klein and Smith also got on the board. Smith led the squad with three steals, while Cheong forced a pair of Colonial miscues. Wan went 3-0 on sprints.
Getting the start, Ashleigh Johnson turned away four of the five shots she faced. Taking over in the second half, rookie Helena van Brande also finished with four saves.
