PRINCETON, N.J. – Former Princeton University field hockey standouts Katie Reinprecht, Julia Reinprecht, and Kathleen Sharkey are competing with the United States women's national team at the FIH Women's World League Semifinals in Valencia, Spain.
Grouped with Germany, South Africa, Ireland, and Uruguay, Team USA opened Pool B play on Thursday, June 11. Helping the Stars & Stripes to a 2-0 victory over Uruguay in the opener, Sharkey hammered the Americans' second tally into the left corner of the cage in the final minutes of play.
In the squad's second match-up against South Africa, Sharkey once again found the back of the net en route to a 4-1 win. Battling Germany to a 2-2 draw, Katie Reinprecht broke a scoreless deadlock in the 11th minute. Team USA closed out pool play with a 2-0 loss to Ireland before suffering a 3-0 quarterfinal setback to Argentina.
The top four teams from the pool stages advanced to the quarterfinals. The top three finishers will earn an automatic bid to the 2016 Rio Olympics. Former Princeton field hockey assistant coach Nate Franks '07 is also with Team USA serving as a performance analyst.
