Volleyball Uses 18-Point Run To Rout Hartford, Split Final Day At Hofstra

First-team All-Ivy League senior Kendall Peterkin recorded 30 kills over two matches and earned all-tournament team honors, and the freshman tandem of Nnenna Ibe and Brittany Smith recorded 12 kills on only 17 swings in the finale, as Princeton split its final two matches of the Hofstra Invitational Saturday. After losing two tight sets in a 3-1 loss to Florida Gulf Coast, Princeton hit .443 in routing Hartford 3-0.

Princeton rolled off 18 straight points in the second set to take full control of a 25-17, 25-2, 25-10 victory over Hartford. The win moved Princeton's season record to 2-4, with three matches scheduled next weekend for the Rutgers Tournament before the Tigers open Ivy League play Sept. 25 at Dillon Gym.
It was Princeton's most efficient offensive performance of the season, as the Tigers hit .443 over three sets. Peterkin recorded 13 kills and hit .429, while junior middle Brittany Ptak added 11 kills and hit .625. Ibe (7-0-11) and Smith (5-0-6) punctuated their second collegiate weekends with impressive showings, while senior Sarah Daschbach added 13 digs, giving her 40 for the day.
Head coach Sabrina King has used the setting duo of Lauren Miller and Claire Nussbaum this season, and both had strong efforts. Miller had a team-best 24 assists, while Nussbaum had 15.

One day after losing a pair of two-point sets in a 3-1 loss to Hofstra, the Tigers dropped another pair of close sets in a 29-27, 21-25, 25-17, 25-22 loss. The Tigers fought off four set balls in the opener, and other in the fourth, but couldn't get a swing for the victory in either case.
While Peterkin had 17 kills, junior outside Cara Mattaliano added 12 kills and seven digs. Senior Sarah Daschbach had 27 digs, while sophomore Kelly Matthews had nine kills and 15 digs. Freshman Brittany Smith continues to add some explosiveness off the bench, recording six kills and a pair of digs.
