Men's Track & Field Makes History, Wins 25th Straight HYP Title

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (1/29/16) - A silver anniversary arrived for the Princeton men's track & field as the Tigers recorded their incredible 25th straight HYP victory this afternoon. A quarter of a century Princeton has dominated the tri-meet and did so again this afternoon, winning 112 to Harvard's 35 and Yale's 33.Princeton won 13 of 17 events. Though it would be easier to tell you which events the Tigers did NOT win, they claim victories in the: 60, 200, 400, 500, 800, 1,000, mile, 3,000, 4x800, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put and weight throw.
Freshman Charles Volker won the 60 at 6.82, followed closely behind by sophomore Carrington Akosa at 6.88. Junior Brent Albertson added to the team points with a fourth-place finish of 7.12. Akosa went on to win the 200 at 21.75 as Prineton went 1-2-3 in the event. Albertson was third at 22.27 with senior Daniel McCord second at 21.89.
In the 400 it was junior Ray Mennin and sophomore Josh Freeman going 1-2. They both finished uneder 49 seconds at 48.51 and 48.61, respectively.
Sophomore Josh Ingalls won the 500 with a PR of 1:02.32, with freshman Christian Fryer-Davis earning a point with a fourth-place finish of 1:05.07.
Luke Brahm won the 800 at 1:52.18, with Eric Schulz second at 1:52.65 - both PRsand Jared Lee fourth at 1:54.93 as the team accrued nine out of 11 points in the event.
Sophomore Garrett O'Toole won the 1,000 at 2:27.66. Junior Stephen Rossettie helped along the score with a fourth-place time of 2:29.79.
No one was a match for sophomore Noah Kauppila in the mile as he crossed the line at 4:07.93, nearly four seconds ahead of the rest of the competition.
Freshman Jeremy Spiezio won the 3,000 at 8:13.60, while junior William Bertrand was third at 8:19.19.
Sophomore James Burns picked up an additional point in the 60 hurdles with a PR of 8.39 for fourth place.
Fryer-Davis, Akosa, Mennin and Freeman made up the 4x400 relay that came in second to Yale in a tight 3:16.35 to 3:16.39 race.
Schulez, O'Toole, Kauppila and Ingalls gained more ground in the 4x800 winning by nearly five seconds with a time of 7:34.97.
Princeton earned five more victories in the middle of the oval.
Junior Xavier Bledsoe and sophomore Colin Reilly went 1-2 in the high jump. Bledsoe cleared 2.04 while Reilly was 1.96.
Senior Jake Scinto won the long jump at 6.99, while freshman Stefan Amokwandoh set a PR of 15.16 to win the triple.The Tigers went 1-2-3 in the shot put for 10 of 11 points with junior Christopher Cook leading the way with a throw of 18.11, sophomore Mitchel Charles reached 17.10 and junior Jared Bell 16.17 as the only three throwers over 16 meters.
Freshman Adam Kelly won the weight at 20.35, crushing the competition by 2.40 meters. Junior Vic Youn was third at 17.42.
Sophomore August Kiles and junior Ben Gaylord picked up five points in the pole vault as both cleared 5.02 - a new PR for Gaylord
