Women's Squash Stays Perfect v. Dartmouth, Eyes Sunday Showdown at Harvard
January 09, 2016 | Women's Squash
That mission was accomplished in impressive fashion, as the third-ranked Tigers stayed perfect on the season with a 9-0 win in Hanover.
"I think today we came out focused, energetic, and excited,” said junior Gabriella Garr, who was pushed through five tough games before claiming a win at No. 7. “Each team member fought hard for her win, and a 9-0 victory is a fantastic way to kick off this big weekend and the rest of the Ivy season."
Princeton took care of business early, sweeping the first three matches on court to establish control of the match. Senior Isabella Bersani thought the long ride may have had a slight early effect, but the Tigers overcame it quickly.
“After a long drive we were a bit slow warming up,” she said. “The courts were loud and lively with Big Green fans but we were able to focus in on each point and walk away with wins on all courts. It was a great way to start our Ivy League season.”
Seven of Princeton's nine starters won by 3-0 scores, including No. 1 player Olivia Fiechter, who dropped only 10 points in her match.
Princeton will take on Harvard Sunday at 2:30, or following the men's match. All courts will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.
