PRINCETON, N.J. (10/25/16) - The defending Ivy League champions look to make it two straight as the Princeton women's cross country team hosts the 2016 Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29. The 6k race begins at 11 a.m.
The Tigers will have a battle as Yale (No. 21), Penn (No. 24) and Harvard (No. 26) are ranked in the latest national poll with Cornell and Brown receiving votes.
Princeton has won the title more times than any other team, nine total and looks to grab No. 10 under first-year head coach Brad Hunt. The last time the Tigers won in successive years was a stretch of five from 2006 to 2010, including the record-breaking 2009 season in which the team posted the only perfect score in Ivy history going 1-2-3-4-5.
The top individual finisher the last two years has been a Tiger with Lizzie Bird '17 winning in 2015 and Megan Curham '17 in 2014. The tape has seen Orange & Black a lot this century with Liz Costello '10 taking top honors in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and Alex Banfich '12 winning in 2010.
Both Bird and Curham have battled injuries this season leaving the door open. Senior Alexandra Markovich has been the Tigers top runner all season and should lead the pack again on Saturday. Sophomore Brighie Leach was a scorer at Heps last season and is working her way to being 100 percent healthy again. Melinda Renuart, Allie Klimkiewicz, Natalie Rathjen also have experience at Heps. Freshmen Rachel Granovsky and Ally Rome have scoring potential as well.
