Princeton won four events at the New Year's Invitational, highlighted by freshman Ashley Willingham setting a school record in the 300 as the Tigers hosted the meet at Jadwin Gym on Sunday afternoon.
Five Tigers finished in the top seven of the 300, with four posting PRs. Willingham claimed the victory doing something no Tiger has done before her – run under 40 seconds. She clocked 39.91 to best Eileen Moran's '12 mark of 40.36 set at this same meet in 2011. Freshman Heide Baron was third at 40.95 followed by junior Christina Walter in fourth at 41.13, junior Ashley Reed sixth at 41.47 and junior Quinn Parker at 41.50.
Walter started her day by taking fourth in the 60-meter dash at 7.80.
Junior Maia Craver was the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles, putting up a PR of 8.73 in the final after an 8.82 in the prelims. She has run a PR in both meets this season, improving on last year's time of 8.96.
Senior Elisa Steele was the runner-up in the 500 with a PR of 1:15.22. Sophomore Carly Bonnet was fifth at 1:18.05 with freshman Devon Block-Funkhouser not far behind at 1:19.20.
The 4x400 relay of Craver (59.644) sophomore Mikaela Sawyer (1:10.694), freshman Hadley Wilhoite (1:00.573) and sophomore Frances Lodge (57.778) earned a win by more than four seconds, 3:59.69 to Rider's 4:04.27.
In the field events, the Tigers claimed two events: the weight throw and the pole vault.
Senior Julia Ratcliffe won the weight at 19.33 (63-5) with her best mark coming on her final attempt. She was past the 19-meter mark on three of her six throws, with five of them being able to win the event. Junior Kennedy O'Dell was fourth at 16.58 (54-4.75), and was also the runner-up in the shot put at 13.36 (43-10).
Senior Allison Harris won the pole vault at 3.85 (12-7.50). She cleared the height on her first attempt, passed on 3.95 and was unable to get over 4.05 – while the next best mark in the field was 3.75.
It was a battle in the triple jump with less than two inches separating the top four.
Kerri Davidson placed third at 11.60 (38-0.75).
Princeton returns to the track on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Great Dane Invitational at the Ocean Breeze facility in Staten Island.
