RESULTS
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (1/14/17) - The Princeton women's track & field team finished more than 61 points ahead of the second-place team as it scored 151.5 points to win the Great Dane Classic at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The host school Albany took second place with 90.33 points, followed by St. John's with 69 and Buffalo with 67.83.
The Tigers middle distance earned a good chunk of the points, as it grabbed 73 points between the 400, 500, mile and 1,000 meter events.
Princeton started the day out with 12 points in the 400 meters. Sophomore Elisa Steele finished third overall at 56.54, winning heat 2. Sophomore Maia Craver won heat 4 in 56.80 and had the fifth best time overall at 56.80. Sophomore Carly Bonnet's time of 57.94 was ninth out of 43 competitors as she took second in heat 2.
The Tigers earned four more points in the 500 between junior Ashley Forte and sophomore Jackie Berardo. Forte clocked 1:16.61 to take second in her heat and ninth overall, while Berardo was third in her heat at 1:17.04 and was 11th overall.
It was pure domination in the 1,000 as Princeton the top four scoring spots and five of the 10. Senior Katie Hanss had the best collegiate time at 2:49.48 and took second overall. She was followed by senior Zoe Sims at 2:50.14, freshman Madeline Sumner at 2:50.39 and junior Delaney Miller at 2:51.48. Sophomore Mim Buscher chipped in an extra point with a 10th place finish of 3:02.61
Twenty-seven points came in the mile as sophomore Alie Fordyce took second but had the best collegiate time at 4:50.67. Senior Alex Markovich had the second-best collegiate time and was fourth overall at 4:55.70. Freshman Erin Endres and senior Jessica Ackerman followed in sixth and seventh with times of 5:00.71 and 5:01.62, respectively.
Senior Lizzie Bird seems to have returned to true form as she won the 3,000 at 9:47.41. Teammate Rachael Chacko was second at 9:53.76, as they were two of three out of the 37 that run under 10 minutes.
Heide Baron, Ashley Willingham, Ashley Reed and Steele won the 4x400 by more than four seconds, putting up a time of 3:48.18. The Tigers' B & C relays also finished in the top 10, though only one relay could earn points.
Sophomore Allison Harris won the pole vault, clearing 4.05 (13-3.5) on her first attempt at the height.
Triple jumpers Kerri Davidson and Nnenna Ibe captured 14 points. Davidson was second overall but the top collegian in the triple jump as she reached 11.90 (39-0.5) on her second jump. Ibe launched to 11.54 (37-10.5) on her first attempt to finish in seventh place overall.
Julia Ratcliffe won the weight throw with sophomore Kennedy O'Dell in second place for a big 18 points. Ratcliffe's best throw of 18.79 (61-7.75) came on her fifth attempt though she also eclipsed 18 meters on her first throw as well. O'Dell found 18.38 on her fifth throw (60-3.75) for a new PR. O'Dell was also the runner-up in the shot put with throw of 13.74 (45-1). It came on her final attempt as she was sitting in sixth place before her final throw.
