Hanss Runs Program Record as Princeton Wins HYP

The Princeton women's track & field team showed tremendous promise for the upcoming Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, as the Tigers won the annual HYP meet by 25 points. The Tigers put up 73 points, while Harvard and Yale both earned 48 points.
Senior Katie Hanss ran a Princeton record time of 2:46.20 in the 1,000 as Princeton had three runners post top-10 times. Hanss was the runner-up in the event, and twice this season has clocked a time under 2:50. Also putting up two of the best times in program history were sophomore Alie Fordyce who ran a PR of 2:49.08 for fourth place and senior Zoe Sims who had a PR of 2:49.18.
Already holding the meet record in the pole vault, senior Allison Harris upped her game with a new record of 4.15 (13-7.25). It came on her first attempt at the height, after she passed until 3.95 and then easily making it over on her first attempt. Her 4.15 ranks her 13th nationally. Senior Lauren Santi claimed a point with a fourth-place finish as she cleared a PR of 3.35 (10-11.75).
The Tigers took four of the top five spots in the 400 and boasted a 1-2-3 in the event. Freshman Ashley Willingham won the race at 58.26, followed by classmate Heide Baron at 58.69 and junior Ashley Reed at a PR of 58.92. In all Princeton claimed 10 points in the event.
The dominance continued in the 500 as senior Elissa Steele ran a top-10 time and a PR of 1:14.11 to win the event. The Tigers earned eight points overall as sophomore Anna Jurew was third at 1:16.39 and sophomore Carly Bonnet was fourth at 1:17.18.
Four more points came in the 800 as junior Ashley Forte was the runner-up at 2:12.89. Sophomore Madison Offstein was fourth with a PR of 2:14.50.
Four more points in the mile with junior Delany Miller and senior Rachel Chacko running 4:56.28 and 4:59.27 respectively.
Princeton claimed three of the four scoring spots in the 3k led by senior Lizzie Bird crossing the line first at 9:34.89. Senior Ally Markovich was third at 9:48.65 and junior Melissa Reed at 9:49.52.
The Tigers took five out of 10 points in the 60 hurdles, as they placed 2-3-4. Junior Maia Craver was the runner up at 8.73 – matching her personal best with a Princeton top-10 time, and was followed in third place byHarris at 8.79 and sophomore Ellie Randolph at 8.82.
Junior Kennedy O'Dell was the runner-up in the shot put with her best throw coming on her first attempt, 13.69 (44-11). She was then the second-place competitor in the hammer throw as Princeton knocked out eight points with senior Julia Ratcliffe taking top honors. Ratcliffe, the NCAA champion in the hammer throw, threw to 18.90 (62-0.25) on her third attempt and was over 18 meters on three total attempts. O'Dell reached 17.55 (57-7) on her first attempt. They were the only two throwers over 17 meters.
Sophomore Nenna Ibe was third in the high jump at 1.64 (5-4.5) clearing it on her first attempt.
The Tigers won the 4x400 relay by three seconds over Harvard at 3:46.26 and was second in the 4x800 to Yale 9:02.74 to 9:05.46.
Other point scorers included freshman Carson Brisk who was third in the 60 at 8.25, and sophomore Ellie Randolph who was fourth in the long jump with a PR of 5.47.
