Men's Hoops Team Loses Caruso to Foot Injury
December 14, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Princeton senior Henry Caruso, a first-team All-Ivy League honoree a year ago, will miss the remainder of the season due to a toe injury.
Â
The loss comes three days after the program announced Caruso's classmate, Hans Brase, was lost for the rest of the season to a knee injury. Both Tigers – Caruso, a history major, and Brase, a sociology major – will graduate this spring.
Â
"This is a really tough break for both Hans and Henry. The bottom line is that we're down two really experienced players," Mitch Henderson, the Franklin C. Cappon-Edward G. Green '40 head coach of Princeton men's basketball, said. "But, I think this is an opportunity for all of us. We have a chance to grow and learn and get better and that's what we will do going forward."
Â
Wednesday night's game against Saint Joseph's was the first one Caruso missed since the 2014-15 season opener at Rider. He gained a starting role late that season and was among the Tigers' starting five for 38 straight games beginning with the 2015 season finale at Penn.
Â
After playing in eight games as a freshman, Caruso became a regular part of the rotation as a sophomore, appearing in the 2014-15 season's final 29 games while getting the six late-season starts on the way to a 6.1 point-per-game average. Last season, he was both Princeton's leading scorer (15.0 ppg) and rebounder (6.2 ppg) and was averaging 9.5 points per game this season.
Â
Caruso finishes his career with 690 points, averaging 9.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
