A late run lifted California to a 62-51 win over the Princeton men's basketball team as the Tigers opened the Pearl Harbor Invitational Tuesday at Bloch Arena on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on Fox Sports 1.
The Tigers will face Hawai'i at 4:30 p.m. HT/9:30 p.m. ET Wednesday, the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.
Princeton held a 46-44 lead after a Henry Caruso 3-pointer with just less than eight minutes to play, but Cal held the Tigers without a field goal until a Caruso bucket that made it 55-51 Cal with 1:16 to go. The Bears went on a 11-1 run to build a lead of eight at 55-47 with 2:35 to play, and after the Caruso score to pull Princeton within four, the Tigers missed their final five shots from the field as Cal pulled away.
The Tigers outshot Cal from the field before the break, 27.6 percent to 25 percent, holding a 20-18 lead at the break as both teams struggled to start. Cal heated up in the second half, going 16 of 24 (.667) as Princeton went 9 of 28 (.321).
The Bears added to the field goal advantage (.429 to .298 for the game) by outrebounding the Tigers 49-33. Devin Cannady had a game-high 16 points, joining Spencer Weisz (10) in double figures as Charlie Moore led four Bears in double figures with 15 points.
