Swimming & Diving Teams Conclude 2016 Portion Of Season With Showdowns At Columbia
December 08, 2016 | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving
The first half of the season for both the men's and women's swimming & diving teams will conclude Friday in New York City, as Princeton heads to Columbia for a pair of dual meets. The women will open the day with a 3 pm competition with the Lions, while the men will follow with a 7 pm showdown. Both competitions will be held in Uris Pool, and admission is free for all.
The women enter the meet with a 3-2 overall record, as well as a 3-1 mark in the Ivy League. The Tigers won their opening Ivy tri-meet over both Penn and Cornell, and they split a pair against Brown (L, 170.5-129.5) and Dartmouth (W, 246-53) last weekend at the Bruno Invitational. Princeton freshman Christie Chong was a double winner (200 IM, 100 back), while the duo of Carolyn MacFarlane and Natasha MacManus swept the diving events. Reigning Ivy League 200 back champion Lindsay Temple won that event again, while Monica McGrath kept her streak of winning at least one event per competition intact by taking the mile.
The men are currently 2-2 overall, and 2-2 in the Ivy League, and they are also coming off a split at the Brown Invitational. Princeton claimed a 222-78 win over Dartmouth, though Brown defended its home pool with a tight 156-144 victory. Princeton had eight wins during the tri-meet portion of the event, including 200 and 500 free victories by sophomore Murphy McQuet, as well as a 200 breast win by classmate Tyler Lin. Zach Buerger and Corey Okubo put on a show in the 200 fly, with Buerger posting the narrowest of wins in 1:46.80.
Following Friday's meet, the Princeton men will be off through the rest of 2016, and they will return to DeNunzio Pool for a Jan. 7 showdown with Navy. The women will be off six days longer, and they will return to DeNunzio Jan. 13 to compete with Villanova. Both will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
