The Week That Was
- For just the second time since 1981, the Princeton Tigers held an opponent under 30 points with a 65-27 victory over the Lafayette Leopards at Jadwin Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Leopards' 27 points are tied for the fewest allowed by Princeton during the Courtney Banghart era.
- Penn., on Mar. 8, 2011, was the last opponent held under 30 points (78-27) while Barnard, now Columbia, scored just 14 on Jan. 8, 1981.
- After allowing 18 points in the first half to Lafayette, Princeton gave up only one basket in the third stanza and nine total points in the second half. The Leopards matched Rutgers with a Princeton opponent-low 11 buckets in the game.
- Junior Tia Weledji set a new career high with 20 points on 8-of-16 (50 percent) from the floor while also tying her personal best with seven rebounds. Senior Taylor Brown made a new benchmark with five assists along with 14 points, four rebounds and two steals. Senior Vanessa Smith added 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists and a steal. Freshman Bella Alarie blocked four shots in the win.
- Lafayette couldn't muster any offense, going 6:51 of game time between the first two stanzas without a basket before a three-point play from Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby (23-13) with 5:07 remaining briefly slowed down Princeton's offensive attack. A 10-5 push from the Tigers set the halftime score at 33-18.
- The Leopards went 1-of-12 from the field in the third quarter, their only basket coming as time expired. Lafayette did not make any of its six long-range attempts and turned the ball over nine times in the frame. The road team had an 11-minute scoring drought as Princeton led 43-20 after 30 minutes of action, keeping Lafayette at distance for the remainder of the game.
- The Tigers' bench scored 34 points tonight. It was also the fifth straight contest that Princeton outrebounded its opponent (52-31) while its 14 steals were a season best.
- The Tigers lead the Ivy League in assists (15.3) despite not having a player ranked among the top 10.
- Princeton is second in the conference in steals (8.1), highlighted by two players (Leslie Robinson, Taylor Brown) ranked among the Ivy's best.
- Leslie Robinson is second in the Ivy in field goal percentage (51.9) while Taylor Brown is fourth in three-point field goal percentage (44.4).
- Bella Alarie is fifth in blocks per game (1.5). She had a season-best four blocks vs. Lafayette.
- Princeton is currently on a four-game winning streak, dropping Rutgers, UMBC, Seton Hall and Lafayette with a scoring margin of +26.5
- During that streak, the Tigers have three players scoring in double figures in Weledji, Alarie and Brown.
- The Tigers' offense has picked up in its last four games, posting 73.0 points per game.
- The team is shooting 39.8 percent from deep, dropping in about 10 threes per game.
- Against UMBC, head coach Courtney Banghart's team set a single-game record with 14 threes on 37 attempts.
- Weledji, Alarie and Brown are shooting at least 45 -percent from long range during the Tigers' win streak.
- Brown has made eight of her last 13 three-pointers (.620)Â while Weledji is six of her last 11 (.545) from deep.
- Princeton is holding opponents to .302 field goal percentage and .222 from beyond the arc.
- After getting outrebounded in its first three contests, the Tigers have won the rebounding battle in the last five games. During that span, Princeton holds a +14 rebounding margin.
- In this stretch, five players are averaging at least four rebounds a contest.
- Sydney Jordan has grabbed 13 offensive rebounds in the last four games.
- Bella Alarie is registering 12.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks during the Tigers' four-game winning streak.
- Alarie's stellar performance vs. Seton Hall was something uncommon in Princeton women's basketball history.
- The last person to score 25 points, grab 14 rebounds and dish out six assists in a game was Ellen Devoe vs. Lehigh on Nov. 25, 1983.
- Alarie has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week the past three weeks and the conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday.
- The freshman leads the team in scoring (12.6), rebounding (7.9) and blocks (1.5). She is second on the squad in assists (2.4). Â
- Princeton is eighth in the country in three-point field goal percentage defense (23.3).
- The Tigers are in the top-25 in rebounds per game (45.4, 20th) field goal percentage defense (33.7, 22nd)
- For the first time ever, the Ivy League will feature a four-team tournament for the 2016-17 season. The tournament will both be held over the same two competition days, March 11 and 12, at The Palestra in Philadelphia.
- The format for each tournament will be two semifinal games on the first day (Saturday) with the No. 1 seed playing the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 seed playing the No. 3 seed, followed by the championship game played the next day (Sunday). The tournaments' winners will receive the League's automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.
- The Ivy League has announced the game times for the inaugural Ivy League Tournament as well as its additional TV package with ESPN and the American Sports Network.
- The men's basketball team will have a total of 10 games available on platforms beyond the ILDN and five ESPN3 simulcasts, the women's team will have six such games.

- The team named seniors Vanessa Smith and Taylor Brown captains for the 2016-17 season.
- Smith is the lone starter returning from last year's squad that went 23-6. The senior started in 28 games, averaging 8.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and just under a steal per game.
- Brown saw time in 24 games in last season off the bench and set career bests in points (3.3), rebounds (1.7) and assists (0.95) per game, three-pointers (12) and field goal percentage (.375). The Woodstock, Ga., native has also improved year-by-year in scoring, rebounding and assists.
- After traveling to France and Africa in 2011, the Princeton women's basketball team flew to Australia this summer.
- The team departed on August 22nd and spent the first four days of the trip in Sydney and the final four days in Cairns, Queensland before leaving to come home on September 1st.
- In Sydney, Banghart's squad explored the Queen Victoria Building, Sydney Opera House and did the Sydney Bridge Climb. On the court, Princeton battled the Norths Bears and the Waratah League All-Stars.
- While in Cairns, the Tigers checked out the Rainforest Wildlife Park, went to the Aboriginal Cultural and Education Experience before conducting a youth clinch at the Yarrabah PCYC.
- The team also took on the Cairn Dolphins of the Queensland Basketball League. On the last day of the trip, the Tigers enjoyed the Great Barrier Reef and have the opportunity to snorkel and take in the spectacular coral and sea life.
- The Tigers finished with 23 wins, the seventh straight year that the program won at least 20 games.
- Princeton became the first Ivy League team to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament since the conference became an automatic qualifier.
- The Class of 2016 became the fourth senior group in program history to win at least 20 games all four years.
- The Tigers have swept 40 of the last 43 Ivy League weekends.
- Head coach Courtney Banghart's team ranked in the top 10 nationally in rebounding margin (third), defensive rebounds per game (fourth), rebounds per game (seventh) and scoring margin (seventh).

- Alex Wheatley '16 netted a game-high 15 points to help lead Princeton to a hard-fought 55-44 victory over Fordham at Jadwin Gymnasium.
- The Tigers shot just 36.7 percent (18-49) from the field and 18.2 percent (2-11) from three-point range. Relying on another stout defensive effort, the Tigers limited Fordham to 32.7 percent (17-52) shooting while finishing with a 44-25 rebounding edge.
- With Princeton trailing 42-40 early in the fourth, Kenya Holland buried a straight-away three to help the Tigers regain the lead. Up 49-44 with less than three minutes to play, Wheatley drew a loose ball foul as part of a big defensive stop before hitting both free throws to put the Orange and Black up seven. Tarakchian and Berntsen then hit 3-of-4 from the charity stripe to stretch the margin to 10 with 1:24 to play.
- G'Mrice Davis is the Rams' leading scorer (12.6), rebounder (11.8) and has snagged the most steals on the team (1.4).
- The junior is sixth in all of Division-I in rebounding and has posted three double-doubles this season. Davis' best game was a 15-point and 21-rebound performance vs. Grambling State (Nov. 27). She is shooting .472 (42-of-89) from the floor this year.
- Fordham ranks in the top 50 nationally in scoring defense (56.4) and is also 19th in three-point field goal defense (25.0). During the Rams' current winning streak, they are allowing just 51 points per bout. In the midst of three consecutive victories
- After graduating last season, Annie Tarakchian signed a contract with BCF Elfic Fribourg Basket, a team from Switzerland.
- Blake Dietrick '15 is currently playing for Bendigo Bank Spirit in Australia. Earlier this year, Dietrick was named to the Women's National Basketball Association's (WNBA) Seattle Storm's opening night roster.
- Dietrick is the first Princeton women's basketball player ever to make a WNBA opening night roster and the second Ivy League player. Harvard's Allison Feaster played for the Los Angeles Sparks (1998-2000), Charlotte Sting (2001-06) and the Indiana Fever (2008).
- Junior Leslie Robinson is the daughter of Princeton alumnus Craig Robinson, who is one of only two men's players in program history to twice be named Ivy League Player of the Year. Her aunt Michelle Robinson (Michelle Obama) graduated from Princeton in 1985 and is currently the First Lady of the United States and the wife of President Barack Obama.
- Sophomore Qalea Ismail is the daughter of Qadry "The Missle" Ismail, who played 10 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with her uncle Raghib "Rocket" Ismail, who played for nine seasons.
- Jordan Muhammad's father, Muhsin, played 14 seasons in the NFL, for the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears.
- Freshman Bella Alarie's dad, Mark, was drafted in the first round of the 1986 NBA Draft and played for five seasons in the NBA.
- Freshman Taylor Baur's dad, Turner, played in the NFL for the New England Patriots.
