PRINCETON, N.J. (2/24/16) - The 2016 Ivy League champion Princeton women's hockey team earned the No. 3 seed in the ECAC Hockey Quartefinals and hosts No. 6 seed St. Lawrence this weekend at Hobey Baker Rink in a best-of-three series. The winner advances the league semifinals.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
The Tigers are the No. 3 seed in the ECAC playoffs, the highest seed earned since 2008-09, with a 14-6-2 league record. Overall the Tigers are 21-6-2 and one win away from holding the program record for wins in a season. This is the first time Princeton has had home ice since the 2010-11 season. The team is led by freshman Karlie Lund who has 37 points on 16 goals and 21 assists, to rank second nationally as a freshman. Senior Kelsey Koelzer has 30 points on 16 goals and 14 assists as the nation's second-highest scoring defender. Both juniors Morgan Sly and Molly Contini have 21 points, while junior Hilary Lloyd and senior Jaimie McDonell have 19 points apiece. Three others are in double digits in scoring as well. Senior Kimberly Newell is 17-5-2 with the nation's fifth-best save percentage at .943 save percentage and a 1.60 goals against average, ninth best in the country.
PRINCETON/ST. LAWRENCE SERIES
The teams split this season's series with St. Lawrence taking a 3-2 game at Appleton in November, and Princeton winning a 4-3 overtime game here two weeks ago here at Hobey Baker Rink. The Tigers hold a 30-23-3 edge in the all-time series with 15 games being decided by one goal. This is the first time these two teams have met in the postseason.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
With a 9-8-5 ECAC record, St. Lawrence earns the No. 6 seed in the ECAC Hockey Tournament. Overall the Saints are 15-13-6. The team is led offensively by junior Brooke Webster and her 31 points. She has 10 goals and a team-best 21 assists. Sophomore Kennedy Marchment has 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points. Marchment missed the Princeton/Quinnipiac trip two weeks ago but was back in the lineup last week as St. Lawrence went 1-0-1 against Yale and Brown. Senior Amanda Boulier leads the defenders in scoring with 25 points, while Justine Reyes is the top rookie scorer with 18 points. Freshman Grace Harrison has gotten the start in each of the last 12 games and has a 5-5-6 record with a .915 save percentage and a 2.11 GAA.
