Lussi, Asom Return from U.S. Youth National Team Competitions in Europe
March 10, 2016 | Women's Soccer
Princeton junior Tyler Lussi and freshman Mimi Asom returned this week from Europe, where the Tiger pair had been competing with U.S. U-23 and U-20 national teams in events in Croatia and Spain.
The pair went to California for training camps in January and provided their reflections on that experience here.
Lussi competed with the U-23 teams at the Istria Cup in Croatia, where the team went 2-0-1 and Lussi played in all three games. The Americans won their opener against the Slovenian women's national team 3-0 before tying the Poland U-19 team 0-0 and defeating the French national B team 2-0.
Asom was in Spain with the U-20 team at the La Manga Tournament, a U-23 team event, where the Americans also went 2-0-1. Asom played in the first and third games of the event, with the U.S. tying the Swedish U-23 team 1-1 in the opener and defeating the Norwegian U-23s 2-1. In the middle game, the U.S. defeated the English U-23s 1-0.
Lussi, the two-time reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, and Asom, the Ivy Rookie of the Year, combined for 27 of the team's 46 goals as Princeton went 6-0-1 to win the Ivy League and secure a home first-round NCAA tournament game in which the Tigers defeated Boston College 4-2 for the team's second first-round NCAA win in four seasons.
