Princeton Honors Temple; Scores Two CWPA Victories at DeNunzio

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 15 Princeton women's water polo team secured two strong victories at DeNunzio Pool on Saturday afternoon, taking down the Brown Bears, 13-6 and then George Washington Colonials, 15-2.

Freshman Lindsey Kelleher dropped five assists on the Bears, which is tied for the third most in a game in program history. Kelleher finished with seven points in the game, adding two goals. Sophomore Haley Wan tied her career high with four goals while juniors Hannah Lapkin, Morgan Hallock posted two goals each. Wan also snagged a personal-best seven steals while sophomore Chelsea Johnson made 10 saves in the victory.
The two Ivy League schools tallied two goals each in the first eight minutes of game time. Princeton gained separation with a five-goal outburst in the second period that set the halftime at 7-2. The Tigers scored three times over a 1:29 span of the frame and then tacked on two more with under 90 seconds remaining.
After the two teams exchanged goals to begin the second half, Princeton pushed ahead with the next three tallies to take a commanding 11-3 advantage and never looked back.

Before the contest, the team honored senior Pippa Temple. The senior has been part of two Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) Championships and NCAA appearances in 2013 and 2015. The Tigers are 106-18 during Temple's tenure as well.
Wan had a six-point contest as she put up three goals and three assists. Hallock converted four times while Temple nabbed three tallies and three assists. While Britt did not record a point, she did have a team-best four steals. Hallock also had an assist, two steals and drew two ejections.
The Tigers began the game on a 5-0 sprint and scored 10 of the first 11 goals before taking a 11-2 halftime advantage. Johnson, in goal, netted a shutout in the second half as Princeton took the contest, 15-2.
Princeton will battle No. 21 Hartwick College (10:20 p.m.) and Bucknell (5 p.m.) tomorrow to wrap up CWPA play and the regular season portion of the schedule. The CWPA Championships will take place Apr. 29-May 1st in Cambridge, Mass.
