Harris Becomes Ivy League Record Holder in Pole Vault

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/23/16) – It was an Ivy League record that stood for nearly 12 years. Held by Princeton's own Chelo Canino from the 2004 NCAA East Regionals. A mark of 4.11 meters (13-5-7.5) in the pole vault. Many have come close to that, including eight-time Ivy League pole vault champion Tory Worthen '13, at 4.01, Jessica Kloss '09, Lauren Tauscher '13, Samantha Anderson '14 all fell just short.
Today, junior Allison Harris succeeded in taking it down as she cleared 4.15 (13-7.25). She cleared the height on her second attempt, after passing on heights of 3.20-3.70 before taking her first vault at 3.80 and clearing easily. Harris then made 3.90, 4.00 and 4.15. Harris set the Ivy League indoor record in February at Penn State's Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup with a mark of 4.20 (13-9.25).
Senior Cecilia Barowski won the 800 today, after winning the Elite 800 last night. This afternoon she clocked a 2:06.99 (1:02.553, 1:04.429) after a 2:03.05 last night. She has already qualified for the Olympic trials with a 2:02.62, the third fastest time in the NCAA this season. The Tigers dominated the event, as sophomore Ashley Forte was third at 2:09.93, freshman Jackie Berardo was fourth at 2:10.37 and junior Zoe Sims was fifth at 2:10.54.
In the 400 hurdles, senior Meghan McMullin was the runner-up. She posted a time of 1:01.08. In the 100 hurdles, freshman Ellie Randolph was third at 14.48. Sophomore Maia Craver was fourth at 14.85. Randolph qualified for the finals with a PR of 14.28 in the prelims while Craver PR'ed with a 14.45 in the prelims as well.
Junior Elisa Steele had the best time the 400 with a PR of 55.80 to take second in the section 4 and 12th overall. Sophomore Quinn Parker also ran a PR of 57.35. Steele went on to post a 25.58 to in the 200 to win section 7 and finish 22nd overall.
Senior Birdie Hutton ran the best time for the squad in the 1500, 4:46.53 to take 18th while sophomore Christina Walter had the best time in the 100 for the Tigers at 12.20 to finished 16th overall.
In the throws, senior Brielle Rowe claimed fourth place in the discus with a throw of 43.99 on her third attempt. Her fourth attempt of 43.44 would have gotten her fourth place as well. Sophomore Kennedy O'Dell was ninth with 41.37, her only countable throw of the day. O'Dell was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 13.16 (43-2.25) which came on her second attempt.
Senior Sara Ronde had the best jump for the Tigers in the long jump at 5.36 (17-7), which came on her second attempt.
Dual sport athlete Nnenna Ibe was ninth in the high jump clearing 1.65 (5-5) on her first attempt at the height.
In the final event of the day, the 4x400 relay of freshman Carly Bonnet, sophomore Mattie Baron, sophomore Christina Walter and junior Zoe Sims ran 3:53.51 to take third in Section 1.
Princeton will compete at the Penn Relays April 28-30 and the TCNJ Meet April 29-30 in the final meets before hosting the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships.
