No. 16 Women's Water Polo Begins CWPA at Michigan

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 16 Princeton women's water polo team will start Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) play this weekend at the Canham Natatorium on the campus of Michigan University.
In the team's downtime, senior-in-waiting Ashleigh Johnson made a stop by DeNunzio Pool. Johnson recently helped the United States National Team qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Tigers will battle No. 8 Michigan (11 a.m.) and No. 15 Indiana (8 p.m.) on Saturday and then Harvard (No. 13) on Sunday at 9 a.m. Princeton is 7-0 against Michigan all-time.
Indiana and Princeton have won 11 games against each other in program history. The Hoosiers recorded two one-goal victories last season including a 13-12 triple overtime thriller. Head coach Luis Nicolao's squad got the ultimate revenge with 7-6 conquest in the 2015 CWPA Championship. It was the Tigers' first victory over Indiana since 2007.
Princeton has lost just once in 36 contests against Harvard. The Crimson's last win over the Tigers was in 2004. Princeton dropped Harvard, 16-8 earlier this year behind four goals from freshman Lindsey Kelleher.
The women's water polo team's last match was a tough 7-6 loss to No. 14 Loyola Marymount on Mar. 19. The Tigers went 2-1 at the Loyola Marymount Invitational and lost just one other time in the month of March. Princeton is 13-3 on the year.
Sophomore Haley Wan leads the Tigers with 32 goals on 48 shots (.667). The sophomore also includes team-best 24 assists, 22 steals and 13 sprint victories. Princeton has three other players with over 25 goals. Kelleher is making a major impact posting 27 goals, 21 assists along with 18 steals and drawn 14 ejections.
Junior Morgan Hallock has shown an all-around game, registering 26 goals in addition to drawing a team-high 32 ejections. Sophomore goalie Helena van Brande is 12-3 with 117 saves along with 29 steals. She has made at least five saves in every start this season.
