Women's Track & Field Claims Four Wins on Day 2 of Sam Howell

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/9/16) - The weather put a damper on the weather for Day 1 of the Sam Howell Invitational but the Princeton women's track & field team didn't disappoint, earning four wins this afternoon.
Princeton went 1-2-3-4 in the 200 with junior Elisa Steele claiming the win at 25.78, followed by sophomore Ashley Reed at 27.29, junior Allison Harris at 27.32 and freshman Allison Glossinger at 27.58. Steele was the runner-up in the 400 clocking a 57.08 with sophomore Ashley Forte right behind at 57.74 Junior Zoe Sims and sophomore Quinn Parker weren't far behind at 58.68 and 58.86 for fifth and sixth place.
Junior Katie Hanss, who had the top collegiate time in last night's 1500, earned a win this afternoon. She posted a time of 2:15.63 in the 800. In today's 1500 it was sophomore Melinda Renuart with the win at 4:39.17.
Freshman Shea Copeland was fifth in the 100 at 13.50. Five Tigers qualified for the 100-meter hurdles but did not compete in the final due to weather. Only three competitors were in the 400-hurdle final with freshman Carly Bonnet and sophomore Madelyn Baron going 1-2 at 10-4.38 and 1:09.13.
Most of the field events were contested indoors today because of the rain and temperatures in the hi 30s.
Senior Taylor Morgan won the high jump as she cleared 1.70 (5-7) on her first attempt. Classmate Kerry Krause was third at 1.60 (5-3), while freshman Frances Lodge was fourth at 1.55 (5-1). Morgan went on to take second in the shot put with a throw of 12.86 (42-2.25).
Harris matched the meet record of 3.95 (12-11.50) as she claimed yet another victory in the pole vault. She passed on heights 2.95-3.75 and then easily cleared 3.80 and 3.95 on her first attempts.
The Tigers went 2-3-4-5-6 in the long jump with junior Ariel Becker taking second place with a jump of 5.59 (18-4.25). Senior Sara Ronde wasn't far behind at 5.58 (18-3.75). In the triple jump, it was junior Alex Lanzafame with the best mark for the Tigers. She leapt to 11.18 (36-8.25) on her fourth attempt.
Princeton will be home the next two weeks, as it hosts the Princeton Outdoor Invitational April 14-15 and the Larry Ellis Invitational on April 22-23.
