Gulati, Lussi Set for USWNT U-18, U-23 Team Events
June 14, 2016 | Women's Soccer
Rising senior Tyler Lussi is set to head to England with the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team and incoming freshman Sophia Gulati is already with the U.S. U-18s in California as Princeton players earn more time with USWNT programs.
Lussi and the U-23s will play in the U-23 Women's Nordic Tournament at St. George's Park, the training center for the England Football Association, playing against U-23 teams from Sweden, Norway and England. Lussi is one of 20 players and one of four forwards on the U.S. squad. The tournament will run May 28 through June 8. The U.S. Soccer announcement on the tournament can be found here.
The reigning two-time Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, Lussi was with the U-23s earlier this month, training in Virginia. She also played in the Istria Cup in Croatia in March after first training with the U-23s in California in January.
That training site in Carson, Calif., is where Gulati has been training since May 21 as part of a session that will run through Saturday. U.S. Soccer notes in its announcement on the camp (here), which includes 26 players, is aimed at preparing players for the 2016 and 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup tournaments.
Rising sophomore Mimi Asom has also spent time training and playing with the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team since January, giving the Tigers three players with USWNT experience, plus rising junior Vanessa Gregoire, who was part of Canada's entry in the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
