Men's Track & Field Team & Eight Individuals Earn Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS (7/29/16) - Eight members of the Princeton men's track & field team have been named All-Academic it was announced by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The team itself was also honored, earning UFTFCCCA All-Academic team accolades, after qualifying with a cumulative GPA of 3.31.
Carrington Akosa, Xavier Bledsoe, Chris Cook, Noah Kauppila, August Kiles, Greg Leeper, Bryan Oslin and Charles Volker each captured All-Academic honors.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds), or for multi-events finished in the top 48 in the region.
Sophomore Carrington Akosa who recently completed his sophomore season earns the honors for the first time. He finished the indoor season ranked 45th in the 200 with a time of 21.18. The 2016 Indoor Ivy Heps Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet, Akosa won the 200 and was second in the 60. Outdoors, he won the 4x100 and second in the 100.
Junior Xavier Bledsoe competed in the NCAA Regional in the high jump. The indoor Heps champion and outdoor runner-up Bledsoe cleared a PR of 2.13 this season. He finished 23rd at the regional with a clearance of 2.08.
This is the third year junior Chris Cook has earned all-academic honors. He was 41st indoors in the shot put and competed in the regional outdoors in the same event. Cook finished 22nd overall in the regional at 17.62 and had a season best throw of 18.33. Cook was both the indoor and outdoor Heps shot put champion.
Sophomore Noah Kauppila nabs his second academic honor. He competed in the NCAA regional in both the 1500 and the 5k, running PRs of 3:48.38 and 14:07.33, respectively. He was the indoor 1,000 Heps champion and a member of the runner-up outdoor 4x800 relay.
Sophomore Pole vaulter August Kiles was the indoor Heps champion and outdoor runner-up. Indoors he finished 37th with a mark of 5.25 while he competed in the NCAA regional outdoors matching that same mark.
The 400 hurdles Heps champion junior Greg Leeper competed in the NCAA regional. He clocked a PR of 52.28 to win Heps and earn his way into the regional.
Multi-eventer senior Bryan Oslin finished the outdoor season ranked 46th in the decathlon in the East region.
Freshman Charles Volker qualified after ranking 54th in the indoor 60 at 6.73. Volker was the indoor Heps champion in the 60 and was the outdoor 4x100 champion.
