Princeton led by as many as 21 points early in the second half, and although Penn rallied to pull even, the last stretch of the night belonged to Princeton in a 61-52 win to open Ivy League play Saturday night at Jadwin Gym.
The win extends Princeton's streak to four straight victories overall and six in a row over Penn, tying a program record for most consecutive victories over the Quakers.
Princeton gained the 21-point advantage on a 25-8 run that bridged halftime and broke open a 14-10 lead midway through the first half. Penn responded to that 39-18 Tiger advantage with a 26-5 run to square the game at 44-44 on a Jackson Donahue 3-pointer with seven minutes to go in the game, but the Tigers scored the next seven points and held the lead the rest of the way.
Devin Cannady led all scorers with 16 points, while Amir Bell had a season-high 12 and Myles Stephens had a game-high and a career-high 10 rebounds as the Tigers won the boards 34-29.
Princeton's win came despite the Tigers shooting just 34.7 percent from the field to 40.5 percent for the Quakers and hitting just three of 19 from 3-point range. But, the Tigers were able to balance that by going 24 of 28 from the stripe to 11 of 20 for Penn and committing 10 turnovers to 15 for the Quakers.
Darnell Foreman had a game-high 17 points to lead three Penn players in double figures, with Donahue and Ryan Betley adding 11 apiece.
Princeton will return to Ivy League play next Friday and Saturday in Jadwin Gym when Brown and Yale visit, both for 8 p.m. starts.
