Wrestling Team Readies For Deep, Competitive Field At 2017 Navy Classic
November 16, 2017 | Wrestling
Two years removed from claiming four individual titles and taking the overall title at the 2015 Navy Classic, the Princeton wrestling team is making a return trip to Annapolis this weekend and will look for similar success during the first full team event of the 2017-18 season.
The Tigers, coming off a third-place finish at the 2017 EIWA Championships, had a strong effort in the season-opening Princeton Open two weeks ago, but they will be bolstered by the ranked duo of Matthew Kolodzik and Jonathan Schleifer, both of whom sat out the Open to prepare for the NWCA All-Star Classic the following day. Though neither won their matches, both put up impressive performances against opponents ranked in the national Top 5.
Schleifer was one of the four Tiger individual winners at the 2015 Navy Classic, which Princeton scored 139 points to earn the win over a field that included two Top-25 opponents. Both Princeton and host Navy will enter the weekend ranked in the InterMat Top 25 tournament rankings, though there will be a number of nationally ranked competitors among the 17 teams.
Below is all the information Princeton fans will need for the event, especially for those traveling to the Saturday competition.
