Dominant Performance Paces Volleyball Team To Sweep Of Columbia, Back Into First Place
November 03, 2017 | Women's Volleyball
The Princeton women's volleyball team put together its best match in quite some time, and it looks to be hitting its stride for a second time this season. The Tigers opened their final home weekend with a 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 sweep of Columbia, which would have been enough to make it a good night.
It got better over the next hour, though. Harvard rallied from a 2-1 deficit and fought off three match balls before pulling out a 20-18 win over Yale to bring Princeton back into a first-place tie with the Bulldogs. Both teams are 8-3 in the Ivy League with three matches to go, while Harvard trails both by one match. Both Princeton and Yale have one home match remaining Saturday night, and then both will play road matches next weekend.
Sophomore setter Jessie Harris had one of the best matches of her season. She recorded 38 assists and 11 digs, paced an offense that hit .330 for the match, and she added eight kills on only 11 swings for a .727 hitting percentage. Classmate Maggie O'Connell was the biggest beneficiary of her setting, as she led all players with 12 kills and hit .391 for the match. Junior Caroline Sklaver added 10 kills with only one error (.562), while freshman Alexa Underwood made good on her second collegiate start with eight kills and a match-high 14 digs.
Sophomore Devon Peterkin added seven kills, while Maddie Huber added 10 kills in the opening match of her Senior Weekend. Princeton will play its final regular-season home match Saturday at 5 pm against Cornell in a match streamed live on the Ivy League Network.
