2017 NCAA Tournament Bracket
It'll be a familiar opponent when the NCAA tournament opens for the Princeton women's soccer team Friday at 7 p.m. at Roberts Stadium.
The Tigers defeated Monmouth 3-0 back in the season opener on Aug. 25 at Roberts. Senior Natalie Larkin and sophomore Abby Givens had the goals for the Tigers, with Givens getting a pair and classmate Natalie Grossi getting the shutout in goal.Â
Monmouth leads the all-time series 9-5, but Princeton won last year, 2-1 in West Long Branch, in addition to this year's meeting as the only times the teams have played after 2002.
Princeton, at 14-2 overall, won the Ivy League at 6-1, rebounding from its Oct. 14 loss to Columbia to win the last three and overcome the Lions and take the outright title Saturday. The Ivy League title was Princeton's ninth, and it led to the Tigers' 12th NCAA tournament appearance. It'll be the second straight first-round game at home for the Tigers, who defeated Boston College 4-2 in 2015, and Princeton's 10th NCAA tournament game played at Lourie-Love Field or Roberts Stadium.
The Hawks are 15-3-2, and despite falling to 0-2-1 with the Aug. 25 loss to the Tigers, have gone 15-1-1 since, carrying a six-game winning streak into the tournament since a 2-1 loss to Marist on Oct. 11. Monmouth swept through three games to win the MAACÂ tournament and win the NCAA bid.
